Post-release Roadmap

After over a year of planning, pitching, design, development, and writing, I can finally share Voyageur with the world. The reception has been great so far; if you’ve bought the game or helped spread the world, thank you so much. This post is about where the game goes from here.

So here’s the actual roadmap:

  • Version 1.1.1: This is the current version at the time of writing, and it’s the release version on Android. The 1.1.1 update should already have rolled out to all iOS users, too.
  • Version 1.1.2: This update will include high-priority bug fixes that I am able to get immediately. The #1 priority is improving how the game behaves when using Voiceover (on iOS) or Talkback (on Android), for better accessibility. Beyond that, I’m hoping to fix whatever critical bugs I can reproduce on my end and solve; stuff like crashes or scripting bugs that leave the player stuck.
  • Version 1.2: The “planet update” will bring more diversity in planet descriptions and perhaps some new flavor events to complement the religious ceremony and monument storylets that are already in the game.
  • Version 1.3: The “story update” will add some more midgame content and more things to do with your money on the way from tricking out your ship to endgame money expenditures.

Characteristic-based narratives like Voyageur are a hungry monster, and there’s never enough content (Failbetter still gets people telling them Fallen London isn’t big enough!), but I do expect to make Voyageur at least a little bigger before I’m done with it. And if the game does well enough for that to be sustainable over the longer term, well - who knows quite how big it can get.
